E.H. 2002 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui, Panama May can't through most of the samples collected to date. I don't know whether this idea is going to pan out or not. 15 May 2002 Julie and Chris left with Frank to take their vacation in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. I'm still very dry here. 16 May 2002 I skipped the morning watches to sort data sheets and assess where we are in the task of identifying alphas and betas. In the late morning I went to check nest E-21 and found that the nest had partially disintegrated, forming a hole that dumped the chick and egg out. I had checked it two days before and found one chick just barely peeking his way out of the egg. I picked up and could hear his steady "tap, tap, tap." I searched through the leaf litter below the nest and found no sign of the egg, & but I followed a faint peeping noise to the chick. He was getting cold, but was still moving around and the female was frantically mobbing me.
