Duval, E.H. 2001 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov, Panama 30 November 2001 Important note: Yesterday Paula White saw a collared forest falcon at Acacia. It was perched & flushed in front of her to another perch. It matched the description (short broad wings, etc) in the book as well as the picture, & she had a fairly good look at it. She says it crashed fairly noisily through the undergrowth. It flew from the area where we sit for ACA watches north toward SPY, and stayed within 6' of the ground. This is the first sighting of one of those on the field site - a definite manakin predator. Manakins were in the area, as were many other birds. When the falcon went through, something alarm called and all birds in the area fell silent. Paula describes even a black-chested jay sitting very quietly in a palm, "peeking out." At least three manakins were in the area. Today we left Boca Brava at 8:00. Before we left, I saw an unBRc, ODM, & Blue-crowned MotMot in the tree by Amelia's house. The birds were QRing at EDM, but Paula discouraged me from pursuing them, & they stopped before I could work up my resolve. (& they
