DuVal E.H. Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov., Panama 21 May can't very much the breeding season. 22 May 2001 We continued to run nets at CAS, but only caught two birds all morning (+ one escaped). The wind picked up at 9:00 am and stayed strong all the rest of the morning, making mistletoe net to impossible. In the afternoon Katie & I took turns staking R-8, but on my watch the chick was gone & BPV was mobbing me with all her heart. Either the chick was just eaten, or had fledged in the last few hours & she was defending it. Got her bands, anyway, & Eric took blood from the chick yesterday. Eric took his weekly day off & went into David for email access, but hasn't yet returned (as of 11:15pm). I found a record 7 nests today (2 technically on John's land).
