We each did four watches today (one a
1-hon one), and I still managed to
confirm the ?'s bands at E-23 (BA_)
and find three nests. None of
the nests have eggs, but only
one had seeds underneath it, so I
have high hopes. Eric thinks a formal
study of seeds found below nests, regressed
against time the nest was active, won't
work - there's just too much rot,
seed predation, sprouting, rolling away, etc.
than can affect the count. I still
think it's worth a try - perhaps next
year in the dry season? I counted
seeds (in an ~1/2m^2 area) under
R-2 yesterday and found 20 white 3-sided
seeds (the most common under nests), one
debly brown seed (2nd most common), & 10 shiny
black Euphorbiacaea seeds that may have
just fallen in the area. The majority of
plants in that area are Euphorbiaceae.
In the evening we met Bill Dawson,
owner (?) of Crocodile Bay Lodge on Golfo Dulce.
He encouraged us to use his name &
