Duval, E.H. 2001 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov., Panama 24 April 2001 Day off - Eric & I went to David for internet access, & Katie stayed here. SAA found time to set up the rain gauge - nearly halfway through the season, & it finally gets done! I've been slackin' off, it seems. No rain in a long time, though, so we haven't missed much. I emailed Kriste Cramer, an ex-Peace Corps gal who is interested in being a short-term field assistant. We'll see whether it happens or not. I think 3 people as assistants next year would be best. Eric & I walked along the Horacosta-Boca Chica road a ways in each direction before getting a lift from Reuben. Saw a flock of Eastern Kingbirds, a blue-black grassquit displaying, more Eupodius & board warblers along the way, right near the corral that's on the west side of the road near Boca Chica (15min walking?) & a house that's on the East side. It's a wooded gully that looks like decent manakin habitat. The Eupodius have appeared all at once, & the Swainsons Thrushes seem to have tapered off marginally.
