DuVal, E.H. 2001 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov., Panama 20 April 2001 The North Wind started again at noon today. It seems like we may never have a rainy season this year. I target-netted the mother of nest E-9 and eventually resorted to despicable tactics. She was unbanded & totally unconcerned about being watched at the nest. I even set the net feet away while she sat still, watching. After she left & returned without hitting the net, I flushed her, bled the chicks, & caught her as she mobbed me. Traumatic for all involved, but the mission was accomplished. Katie & Eric each did 4 watches (3 2-hr. & 1 1-hr.). My 3rd watch, at CEL5, was so slow I stopped after 1 hour & went chick-banding. One of the chicks in E-8 was gone; fledged or eaten, with just one aluminum band. The other was still there, so I bled & banded her. E-7 was bled for the 2nd time & banded SA __d; needs a few more days for the tarsus to be long enough for the last band. R-1 chicks were poised to fledge, especially PSW, who was trying to fly out of my hands. WOW mobbed me as I handled them. That poor bird has been tormented more than necessary this year, but her chicks are fine. There's a new flycatcher (Olive-sided?) nest at BRIDGE by the new well; it's
