Today we began training for
behavioral observations. I began
by trying to explain all the
variables we record and realizing
how difficult it is to comprehend
them all at once. We went to
EDM 1 and BRI 2 as a group and
did a 2-hr. observation at each
place. It reaffirmed the need to do
two hour observations, as not much
happens for long periods of time.
We had a surprisingly hard time with
reading bands - I guess I'd forgotten
how difficult it really is. ARA was at
bridge, and Eric saw RB-(DM) -
perhaps RBB still is in power? One
major sampling problem is that the sampling is
not well-defined. How far away does
a down-whistle have to be before
it doesn't get counted?

conversation with Megan, a Peace Corps
volunteer who will be there for 17
more months. There are 100-150
