DuVal, E.H. 2000 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui' Prov., Panama' 6 May cont. got the mom's combo - # AOG. Yikes! Two more genetics data points, though one of the babies is dead. Mark caught AOG eating the chick's fecal sacs; the fourth time he's seen such a thing during nest-watches. The female feeds the babies first, then picks off a sac & simply swallows it. The babies do regurgitate fruit seeds that are too large to be digested, just like the adults. I've found them in the nest with a fresh, cleaned pit resting by their bill - #4 was littered with two kinds of pits. I collected samples of both & stored them in a manilla envelope on 5/5/00. The clinging seeds often (~50% of 8 seeds) housed large, white guts that had eaten away the inside. May 2000 Clear & sunny, 87° in the morning. 13mm of rain in the afternoon. The telemetry equipment continues to cause problems. I couldn't get a signal from any of the birds all morning, except for a few faint beeps from BOY & RBV when I was up near the cleared lots: they're
