DuVal, E.H. 2000 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov., Panama May 2008 Today was the day off for this week, so I didn't start work until 1:30pm. But I opened unsuccessful nets for BOY and closed them because it was too windy; radiotracked ABY and RBV, and banded M-6 and K-15 to completion. NWN ('the littlest All Black') in K-15 is 4g lighter than his brother NOV. He has sores on his head from insect bites and just generally looks like he won't fledge any time soon. NOV, on the other hand, is strong and well-feathered, and made a short flight away from me. M-6 similarly has a runt, but he's the runt by less than 2g. So it seems that manakins hatch asynchronously, barely. Interesting. M-1 had one baby stay in the nest for about a day longer than the other, but we didn't actually check to see that it was the littlest sibling.
