D'Val, E.H. 2000 Journal Isla Boca Brava, Chiriqui Prov, Panama' 27 Apr. '00 I located AB4 to sight in the afternoon, & tried to stake out E-5 but got nowhere. Yesterday the unbd DM who reins at that perch (BTE 1) chased a banded green who I would have sworn was the mother of E-5 - twice. He seemed to generally be on a testosterone high. I hope I can catch him and take a hormone sample! Tomorrow we net at bridge. 8 April '00 Weather - 82° at 8:30am; overcast, then partly cloudy/sunny. ~20 min. sight of light rain at night. What a day! We caught 15 manakins right in the last two net checks, after Kat had left us to stake out a nest. Aaa! Mark & I were very late for dinner. We caught a total of 30 lance-taileds, 8 of which were new (+ 2 new DM's !). I watched an unbanded DM escape from the net, so there will still be work left there for tomorrow. The bycatch today includes a crimson-backed tanager, little hermit etc., and we saw masked tityras near 2nd beach (first sighting this year).
