Isla Boca Brava, Chiriquí Prov., Panamá
July 1999 Site: Isla Boca Brava, Well site 2
Weather: Very humid!
Net hrs: Opened 8:00 am
Closed 1:00 pm
nets 1-4 used, same placement
as on 7/11/99
total: 12.5 hrs
Habitat: Since Sunday, Franklin's workers
have "cleaned" the area - the
paths have been further cleared
of heliconia + saplings
Notes: Other dancing perch heard across
the path from the one observed on
7/11. See map from 7/11
From the field notes:
"SHIT. Manuel just told me that while I was
gone he & Franklin opened the nets and
caught 2 manakins. He said they
kept them in their house for two days,
the birds weren't eating, and they let
them go. Manuel is way too smart for
his own good. I asked him not to use
the nets without me, explained that
Richard, who had studied birds for many years
had killed 2, & I don't know if any will sink
in. I don't want to get M in trouble, but
there are so many reasons why only I should
use the net!"
