Hairy Woodpecker.
Quaking Aspen Meadow
Tahoe Co., California.
I located a nest
in a Quaking Aspen tree.
The hole penetrated into
the pithy inner layers
through the live soft wood
and bark. The nest
contained young that were
well developed judging
from the squeaks of
the young birds. The
nest was situated about
12' off the ground.
