Dr. B. Richardson 1935 1936 Sciurus griseus griseus Dec. 23 4 mi. NE Springville, 2800 ft. Tulare Co., Calif. Don shot one of the animals at girl scout camp along the river. Haveral area - Sierra Nevada Foothills. Elev-zon - Upper Sonoran. Habitat - Along the water COURSE (within a [illegible]) where the oak trees are large and relatively close to each other. This is based on the one specimen and two other individuals seen. Probably at higher altitudes they would not be so dependent on the river habitat. I doubt if they go above the oak forests. July 11 Cold Spring Saddle, Tulare Co., Calif. One individual shot along road about 7 miles (by road) from Fors Meadow. Haveral area - Sierra Nevada. Elev-zon - Transition. Habitat - Prefers the mixed oak (Q. californica) and yellow pine forests. Seems to be found along the ridges in the lower coniferous forests.
