Wm.B. Richardson 1936 2 Citellus leechyi Jul 13 Canyon G. 2mi N Orovi, 700 ft. Tulare Co. Cal. Shot 2 squirrels near camp today 1 of which was obtained for a specimen, the oth escaped down its field. Jul 14 Shot 5 squirrels the morning while making the rounds of the gopher traps. Famual area - San Joaquin Valley which has extended into this hilly region. Elev. -- down Sonoran. Habits. -- Primarily in rock piles or in alluvial fans where digging is easy and food is most abundant. They are also to be found about old fallen trees. All of the animals taken were 3, perhaps due to the fact that this is the breeding season and the males are coming about more than the females. From the cheek glands of one animal a small quantity of green grass and several seeds were taken. Jul 5 2mi E Pine Flat Tulare Co. Calif Took 2 individuals yesterday afternoon. One from a net trap and the other I shot. Famual area - Sierra Nevada elev -- Transitory Habits. - Along the open hill slope or station cotton.
