Patelka 1945 Feb. 18 Woolsey Canyon Made a short trip into Woolsey Canyon area to take photographs. The following observations deserve notation: Accipiter cooperi - one circling over canyon, flying eastward. Buteo borealis - one pair at NW corner, one pair at SE corner of Woolsey Tract; [illegible] a fifth and apparently single bird soaring over SW corner. Calypso anna - male hummingbird present along west south edge near Bachman tongue, where one, and almost certainly the same individual, was present all last winter, spring, & summer. The identical post occupied then was occupied today. Colaptes cafer - One flushed from open field near SW corner flew into Eucalyptus grove along south border. Another seen flying along canyon toward South Branch. Sialia mexicana - A flock of about 20 individuals arose from north side of tract and flew eastward. Sturnella neglecta - Several heard from upper slopes in eastern part of Woolsey tract. March 9 U.C. campus, Berkeley, Calif. Paul Dily and Wade Fox both reported Lesser Scaups present on Strawberry Pool.
