Patelka 1943 Journal March 5 9:30 Last night there was a heavy rain, and this morning there is more than the usual amount of activity on our slope. In and about the row-apple tree are three species of Turdidae - about a dozen Robins, at least Two Hermit Thrushes, and a beautiful male Varied Thrush, all, of course, feeding on the berries. There is also at least one Cedar Waxwing. March 19 Berkeley campus. First Brewer Blackbirds noted. 20 Berkeley campus. First Cliff Swallows (flock of 8) and Warbling Vireo noted. 20 Canyon Road, near mouth of Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley Bird species noted to feed on berries of English row during January and February: Robin Varied Thrush Hermit Thrush White-tit Golden-crowned Sparrow Cedar Waxwing Purple Finch! Fox Sparrow. April 1 L.S.B., U.C. campus. A pair of White-throated Swifts is flying about the nesting sites of Cliff Swallows at the southwest corner of Life Sciences Bldg. There are about 15
