1954 Carpodacus mexicanus May 28 Queens Road, Berkeley while he, unlike the male of pair 1, remained perched near the post. May 28 Pair 6, near living room fireplace, active on N W side of house; & carrying nesting materials and examining nest sites. & giving characteristic plaintive doublets or triplets which are uttered persistently by & in this stage. This & occasionally turns into short burbles of song. 1983 10 Sept Helgard Ave., Berkeley Adult being followed by food-calling fledglings.
