Pipilo fuscus
11 April U.C. campus
Pair in LSβ court evidently newly forming. M.chipping, and running this into chip song! He repeated the 3-4 times, then gave 2 plain pair-reinforcement notes. Then again, 2 chip songs, & pair-reinforcement notes. I went shut into coffee, and saw the pair moving in and around the Tap-drawn tree. The M (fanger) was quiet then, but kept moving after or on toward the other end, head lowered, with just a weak aggressive stance when passing.
This behavior seen in newly settling or forming pairs of both members at a patch following territorial skirmishes, especially in pre- or early breeding season.
