one of these gave a weak call in
characteristic tone and pattern, so that
I was able to identify it definitely.
House Wren, I singing intermittently in
eucalyptus south of the mouth of the
canyon (north of Greek Theatre).
Cedar Waxwing - flocking nine flying
over canyon,
Green-backed Goldfinch - 1 along south edge.
Sept. 20 7:30-9:30 A.M. (in company with Prof. W. Storer).
walked along north edge up to
horsepath crossing canyon just west of
large Baccharis patch.
Red-tailed Hawk, 1
Sparrow Hawk, 1
Calif. Quail, two flocks: one near canyon
mouth, the other along the willow draw,
consisting of two family groups, one of two
adults with 7 yng. undergoing what app. post-
juvenal molt; the others, nearby and earlier
apparently combined with the first had
two adults and at least 8 full grown
young.
Horned Owl - 1 pr. in lower part of canyon;
both members of pair called, sometimes
individually, sometimes together;
