Patelka 1948 Apheloconis coerulescens Feb. 17 Berkeley campus. Of the pair disappeared. The frequent calling began some time in early January. Of course, the pair might have disappeared and the calling bird might have moved into the area; however, the latter was an adult, and so were both members of the earlier pair. The sedentary habits of the paired adults and their reluc- tance to leave their home area leads me to the view that the bird is one of the earlier pair. May 1 San Joaquin Exp. Range, Madera Co., Calif. a large, Nest found in rather open Ceanothus cuneatus shrub in a grassy area at least several feet away from any other cover. The nest was 4 feet above the ground and contained three eggs. It was found about 2:30 p.m., when a group of students approached the shrub and the female flew off the nest. This locality is to the east of the Range Headquarters, in the natural area.
