Patelka 1942 July 11 Wolsey Canyon, Berkeley, 800 ft, Alameda Co., Cal. there were Spizella passerina (adults with well-grown young), Parusina anvena and Melospiza melodia. In the open fields (vicinity of willow thickets mentioned earlier) there were several species feeding on seeds of the dried grasses and herbs. These were Carpodacus mexicanus, Spinus pinus, S. psaltria; and S. laurencei. Only one or two individuals of the siskin and green-backed goldfinch were present but there were at least 10 or 12 Lawrence goldfinches. Marshall reported 2 or 3 times as many being present yesterday.
