FAP 1961 Calyptra anna April 15 Berkeley, California pursuing routine. A few day ago, when this male was present at the same spot, he rose to begin a J-dive and was passed momentarily some 60 feet above the vegetation. When a hummer (B) flew out of that vegetation slightly upslope from the point below the pursued one (A). B flew directly toward A, and supplanted him for a moment, then flew on higher and away to the NE. A moved to one side about five feet and then dove. April 15 A juvenile male singing briefly today, from within trees along W side of home. April 21 Young male singing this morning from an exposed twig tip on a branch near branches usually used by adult or annas. Latter not present. May 4 Young male present daily in yard area. Today, at 5:30 p.m., singing in dining room garden, and fly-catching in air over driveway, succulent - dahlia area (fuchsias, camelias, etc.) in blossom). This was interrupted by a moment's passing in mid-air, whereupon the hummer ascended, moving backwards and looking down. The ascent was a typical
