We (Yuri heite, Leonora Costa & Raquel Moura)
arrived in the afternoon and met Luiz Paulo
Pinto (from Conservation International do Brasil -
Av. Antonio Abrahao Caram 802/302 - 31275-000 Belo
Horizonte, MG - telefax: (031)441-1795) at the Hotel
Atlantico Sul (Rua Bento Berilo 224 - phone (073)231-

director and other staff members. He showed
some maps of the region and presented some
projects they are involved. After this we
went to his house to meet his wife,
the biologist Maria Cristina Alves, who is
developing a small mammal research in the
region with Luiz Paulo Pinto. She showed us
a group of monkeys (Cebus xantosternos) and
a porcupine in captivity. We also saw some
small mammals (frozen) she trapped the week
before: Micoureus demerarae, Marmosa murina
and Oryzomys cf. capito. We went south to
the town of Una, where we stopped to buy
some stuff at the supermarket, and then to
the final destination: Fazenda Bolandeira, 10
km S Una, Bahia, 15o21's 39oo0'W.
