Stubbs, R. 1963 202 Asian Trip Kuala Lumpur Feb. 7 Around 10:00 a.m. visited STTI (Specialist Teacher's Training Institute) on a brief tour of town. Mr. J. Allen, the headmaster, showed us around. He is a husky, blonde, balding man in his 30s (?) with English accent, evidently a U.K. man. Among topics covered by the school are domestic science, librarianship, physical education, training for handicapped, etc. Science Science training has been part of the program but is going out since all science is going to the Primary (?) - Malayan Teachers College which will have a science bias (including math.) Allen feels the Cambridge syllabus - exam combination is on the way out. The Federation of Malaya Certificate will replace the Cambridge Exam. Indeed it is running parallel to it now. He feels that there are not enough experienced people to try to run programs like PSSC, etc. We pointed out however, that if interest developed and a request came to the U.S. for specific kinds of help that the Ford Foundation, Asia Foundation, etc. could probably help get U.S. people to assist in the program.
