Jan. 28 131 Thammasat University in Bangkok, with faculties in social welfare, public administration, political science, accounting, economics and law requires 2 years of general science for all students. The other universities, however, do not have such a requirement as yet. The scholarships mentioned earlier are supported by the Asia Foundation and Rotary Club. A high school graduate is about 18 yrs old & has had 12 yrs. of schooling. He may take 5 yrs to get his AB, depending on the course. Science Fairs in the secondary schools are also a stimulus to science training, as are Science Clubs. The Asia Foundation helped send a teacher and 2 students to the Japanese Science Fair. There is a move afoot to establish an Asian Science Fair with the Philippines, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand participants and The countries would take turns being host. A teacher and 2 winners were sent to the International Science Fair in the U.S. but the cost was so great this procedure cannot continue. A science refresher course for science teaching has been instituted but it is very short - only 10 days for physics, chemistry, and biology. Only the most outstanding advance can be considered. It was held at the Univ. & some 40s teachers attended. The program was supported by the Science Society and the Ministry of Education. Because of the short time available for the
