J. Groth 1989 journal 239. Bootlegger Saddle, elev. 9000 ft. Chiricahua Mts., Cochise Co., Arizona May 22 flown as far as Payson! I told him I cont'd would be here until Friday. He said he had seen me at my truck at Barfoot back in '87. The evening continued breezy and cool, with strong westerly winds and high clouds. A loshawk was seen, also more Steller's jays and two sickins flew over. I thought I heard some painted redstarts. May 23 Last night I heard a whip-poor-will call a few times just around sundown. The birds of the morning were olive warblers and black-headed grosbeaks, along with brown creeper, Steller's jay, greater greavee, hepatic tanager, an evening grosbeak (collected), yellow-eyed junco and some others. A flock of six type 2 crossbills came around at about 8:30 am. I got the entire flock, as no more crossbills were heard all day. I shot one & after recording (bird 758) as the others were all sacrificed throughout the day. The three babies all appeared about the same age -- robust begging was heard from them prior to capture. All had no fat. I believe 760 was noted to 758,
