E on a forest road, just N of the
Calif/ores. border -- the Sitka gave way
to Doug fir inland -- only old cones].
I found a place to camp where I heard
crossbill song coming from the side of
the road.

The camp was in a clearcut area
at about 700ft; good view of the ocean.
I had also explored nearby areas but did
not find a good place to set up.
At this locality, I heard saw crossbills
giving a calling -- all Type 4.

mostly type 4. I estimate about 95% type 4,
