Holmes, R, 1962 Erolia ferruginea 8 June Barrow, Alaska The birds of this species were seen with a group of 3 Pectoral Sandpipers in a small grassy patch [remainder surrounded by snow] on the south side of Whistler Flough - 100 yards in from Elbe Lagoon. I shot the larger of the two - when was also the lightest in color & it turned out to be ? - Perhaps there were 2 ?? - rather the pair ??? No calls were heard - The birds were feeding actively - In the same manner as the Pectoral or Dunlin - pecking at the surface of the ground - not probing. When the one bird was shot - the other individual flew off with the Pectorals - but returned stood near the wounded ? for several seconds - then flew off. It could not be located during subsequent check. [The] extra one. 9 June 1330. - One individual seen in company with 2 White-rumped Saps & 3 Pectoral Saps - in the not marshy area so & somewhat W (toward the Lagoon) from Britton's Area. The bird flew off (landing about 300 yards away) then moved on toward the north. About an hour later, it was seen again in the very wet
