RTH 1963 Lemmus 20 July Barrow, Alaska Scattered individuals - most of which seemed to be sub-adult. Were on Dr. Shrair's cross plot. - This area also has good lemming sign - it freely formed runway holes - which are currently been used. Food digging are is evidence. 6 Aug Lemming sign was good at the Shrair Cross plot - well used runways holes, food piles, etc. 9 J.S.A. ever caught 1 transported body left for J. Johnson. - but none ever seen until the burrows were stopped - so little surface activity 12 Aug Cheekudace between Walschbog & Ooliph Sloughs - with J. Johnson - saw four juveniles 1 caught 1 sub-ad. - fair amount of activity - or at least sign - but animals were hard to find. 25 Aug Sign has not increased noticeably during August. Animals have been seen infrequently- mainly in areas where runways are showing sign (use) - ie Runway sign where animals are the greatest absence 1 sign indicates a low prog. Predators - Poor. J. Still hunting a- - hunter - for owls present.
