Holmes, R 1963 2. Lemmus 1 June Barrow, Alaska A snow is melting from boughs, more more Lemming sign is becoming visible. Many bough are muddled by runways+ The vegetation is cut. Again, there are somewhat patchy in locality but then appears to be moderate animal activity. Occasionally white banding, animals are seen - scurrying under a snow or along the edge of a snow bank. Only 4 winter nests have been found, all were empty + centaurea no sign of predation, etc. 4 June In the last few days - only 2 or 3 Lemmings have been seen unfield - fewer than on preceding days. 8 June Mautundra is becoming exposed now + The amount of Lemming activity can be better accessed. There are lays out (may be) with no sign; other localities, like Shrosville - Village Sloop bluff - are heavily cut & of several winter nests were seen as well as 4 lemmings. Again, Lemming seem to be distributed sporadically - in local areas. Bears have shown little activity - but ones with more polymorphism seem to have more.
