Holmes,R. 1963 Lemmus 27 may Barry Alaska Peipt & visitor Beach Pedy - where we saw no fresh Lemmus sign - although over from Pom Jaugus were seen along the southern part of the ridge. Along the north shore of Wobleskoy Slough & the west shore of Elson, localized areas of lemming activity were found. Most of the cutting was along the runway systems + large areas no animals seen Uncut vegetation was most noticeable. 28 may The drum area shows extensive cutting - not only at sides of runways but also in polygon types. 6 animals (all large racet I - J-SA size) were seen - darting under the snow cover. From British area - a vacant plot at Velly, Stoyl, considerable sign was seen - some places it was extensive - all the vegetation being cut - while in other spots - the cutting was only along the runways. In general, the cutting was very spotty - with large areas not touched. Several animals were seen during the afternoon. Little activity evident between Wobleskoy & Dokpal Sloughs - 1 animal seen - 2 - gaugers hunting in the area. Beach Pedy near guslens had some cut vegetation - but is not complete yet.
