No surface nests have been located recently. 15 Aug Barrow: Skroavik, Alaska Lemming still seem to be relatively common near the lake, and the runways & burrows are still well used. The traplines are holding up amazingly well & prospect looks good for a fairly high population later into the fall. 21 Aug Barrow = Skroavik, Alaska The traplines are still doing well. The animals seem to be more active in the dark period, since much greater numbers are caught at night. They are still seen frequently, however, during the day. The predators are still present in large numbers, especially the pugars with both adults & in many cases two juveniles are living the territory. We have been more inconspicuous and are seen only occasionally. Many of the polygonal areas show excellent lemming sign. Some of the runways which were used in the spring
