Plectrophenax nivalis
4 June Barrow, Alaska
This bird was noted frequently
among the buildings and
road areas. It was not
seen back along the ridge.
5 June Barrow, Alaska
Several seen chasing each other
and uttering a guttural note.
Also the males are seen sitting
atop a pole, snow bank of
a building and singing
a bubbling-type song. Cupulet
was seen twice (in 2 different
pairs). At 1330, one female
was seen carrying twigs or
pieces of grass. At 1930, the
males were seen to fly about
50 feet into the air and then
float on outstretched wings
for 30-35 feet, and then
they would either fly up
& repeat the performance again
or they would fly to the
ground. This is in contrast
to the longspure crubeit
normally float all the way
to the ground.
