Holmes,R 1963 Calcanis lapponica 27may Barrow, Alaska Longspun now scattered over the tundra - mostly in singles (8?) or in pairs (8+4). Two chases between males were noted. Several adventury songs were heard. Activity seems light. 28 may - frequent in drum areas near Sod. Not much singing going -- but several or so chases have been noted. 30 may Still the most abundant bird on the Tundra but singing is not yet intense. Occasional chases are seen -- (before 2 8:30). 2 June - The nest cannot be at all open patches / tundra visited today -- Trip to Shroud - most birds appeared as pairs. 7 June Nest building by $ - carrying feathers & Nest under Overhang was along a low flat-top yot's jun - Telse bluff p. Capercaillie seen several times during the Day. 8 June Nest with 5 eggs + sitting $ on side of mound 16' off cakewaker Road near Trapline III A+B. 12 June Nest with 6 eggs + one $ - on Removal Plot (Bison) - on west side of road, with overhanging preci y sod.
