Erolia ferruginea
25 June Barrow, Alaska
He was flying east & landed near the
orange stakes - then started to feed. When
a barrel flew up nearby, he followed,
fllying close behind the other individual
for about 30' - then turning away, gliding &
uttering a 4-parted phrase - before returning to
the chase - Both birds climbed to about
80' - & flew off to the SE & out of sight.
Presumably, the Curlew landed - not
seen - for he did not return to the
area while I was there (another 10 min.).
Once as the two flew off, the Curlew
made a circle - then - gave 3-4
whirrs & then continued the chase.
The ? was not seen during the half hour
spent in the area.
26 June - 2 birds (at least 1 was definitely a Curlew Ssp.)
Flying together - last are Megazones -
circling Meadow lake & crossing the
Bent ridge near the W. row of Beverly
antennae - moving No. 1 & finally landing
somewhere between the P.O.W.s & the
Maguari stadia (?). The ? was not
seen again during the morning (except
for when - while I believed I heard?)
After setting, the Curlew can for 20 min -
