Calcaris lapponicus
3 June Barrow, Alaska
Pairs & individuals seen along Elson lagoon
& at scattered places of tressment
on the beach ridge & near Oth area.
4 June - 7 seen with 10-15 percent grass in its
bill (cross-way) - he lifted the red pen or
stem & lowered his level - fiercely setting
them down & flying off. The 2 looked
standing - less than 6' away - but apparent
paying no attention. - courtship? - no nest
or nest cup was found in the vicinity.
5 June - 1 seen with a degree percent
vegetation - 2-3" long - held cross-way
in his bill - he was coming over
the top - flew - me & was nearby. He
would raise them up - head high to
the lower part, the ground - then
went a 3-4 time - before to drop
them & fly off.
9 June - No flocks have been seen for several days -
oceanal 8 to 8 conflict our noted.
Malt birds are seen in pairs & there is still
much singing going on.
Nest located S W of Britton's Area (75' east / south
salt lagoon + 100 yards w. of U.D. road - (in low
with Kaff's flagged stake) - now with an old
stake - 6' to the east. This nest contained
5 eggs at 1400 & was located on the south
