Holman, R. 1957 Calcaris lapponicus 7 July Barrow, Alaska was a mite nearby and he was trying to warm his note. Pairs are occasionally seen feeding together. 13 July Barrow, Alaska During the last week, longspurs have been fairly common, particularly males. No young birds have been seen on Sundra which seems unusual since the nests have been hatching during this time. Females are seen reasonably sometimes in small groups. Very few mixed (8-9) groups were noted. 15 July Barrow, Alaska. One immature seen near the south- end of Footpoint Lake. Since the cover is poor this year (due to an extremely wet year's - thereby having very little growth), possibly predation may be the cause for the number of immatures. 20 July Barrow, Alaska. During the last four days, several trips have been made to Footpoint Lake, A.A.C.S., and the Beak Ridge. During these trips, no young longspurs were seen. In fact, longspurs as a whole were scarce.
