Calcarius lapponicus
7.
23 June Barrow, Alaska
The same number of eggs. Some of the male
longspurs are now seen in small
flocks so apparently there are non-breeding
males. The territoriality has begun to
break up. The aerial displays are
seen infrequently.
28 June Barrow, Alaska
The nests checked today all contained
the same no. as the last reported
day. Two new ones were found
near topoline II on Jockline ridge.
One contained 5 eggs; 1 had four
eggs. Some males are seen
displays, others seen to
be forming groups of 2 or
3 with very little chasing.
30 June Barrow, Alaska
The first nest discovered in the
tundra in the drum area now has
3 young birds and 2 eggs (at 1600).
3 July Barrow, Alaska
The first nest in the drum
area now contained 5 young. The
second nest had 4 young. The
males seem to be looking together
more than before; a group of 6-8 are now
being seen.
