Erolia ferruginea
22 June Barrow, Alaska
Pletcher & returned during the afternoon but the birds were generally inactive - spending most of their time feeding or in crevices sleeping - (or resting) on a polypite - at which time we could approach to within 10' of the two birds.
23 June 0530 - 0730. Weather clear - light wind. Recorded songs (1) of Curlew Sandpiper. Perches at this time last day were very quiet. No & was not seen once - when both birds flew - keen twin twitter note. Late No. 2 chased a Baird's Pipit by following behind it - in an erratic flight - giving the twitter - after flying about 300 yards - he turned upwards made a large arc & leveled boat toward the centre and gliding on outstretched wings during most of its return flight & giving the song in its entirety. He again chased a Baird's Pipit for a short distance & returned fly normally - per the song (intake). Not from yesterday - the bird gave cheeza beezee - but seemed to pay no attention to alpene or pasinella. Also Turnstone were frequent present & no attent we passed them by with members (Peeps)
