Holmes,R. 1962 Erolia ferruginea 22 June Barni, Alaska W edge from the edge. The nest cup throwing them to the side (both - right? left - usually alternated) and the cup. At the end of her stay: the nest - she stood up. flew off - both birds again feeding. This is the best indicator & date of nest-building - perhaps Mr. & Mrs. choose the other site for egg & does. The building of that cup is the finished, a cup started by Mr. ? (although - Mr. ? had not displayed any when we were observing - during our observation). The frequency of whines was low today - not more than 5-7 were heard during the 1½ hours while we were observing. The doublet phrase (one of our more musical & rhythmic - not as distinctly two-parked as some songs heard earlier, i.e. at Bisa Lagoon. Alarm note - whit, whit, whii, ... gave twice- I gave it once after flying, but not landing to fart away. - She flew off - feeding (note given after landing). Later ? - gave the note while standing - a polyphony - apparently in response to a Pomarine Jaeger - as it flew towards her & as the jaeger flew over Mr. ? crouched but continued giving the note - at 18 sec intervals (i.e. slower than before at 2.3 sec intervals). [illegible] 23.
