3 August Barrow = So. Barrow 3, Alaska
The course of the journey. The nests were
numbered as they were encountered.
Only brief description of location
will begin here - Nemopilus maker?
Notes give the more precise locale.
Nest #13. - located just SE of Dry Lake -
just NE 1 Loon Lake. Three young
were present in the nest - 2 were
banded. No others were seen.
There were present at the nest 74
Wraps of a old Squaw (sex?) and
also the head of 6 or 7 Steller's
Eiders - both apparent prey items
of the owls.
Nest #14. - Found about a mile
ESE 1 Loon Lake: The nest cup was
not seen - but there were 5
young, two 1 while were flying.
Three were banded.
Nest #15. - Located about 2 miles N. of
So. Barrow 3 (along the w. edge 174
large marsh). 5 young were found-
banded, and in addition to
these, there were the remains of
1 chick in the nest (taken by others?)
One adult jager carcass was also
found near the nest.
