Holmes, R. 1960 Nyctea scandiaca 17 July Barrow - Skroault, Alaska Owl nest #9 mentioned previously had 2 or 3 lemmus at the edge. +1/2 had 1 or lemmus. Nest #5 was checked at the mouth of Tote-pik Slough. I banded 5 young, and there was 1 more that was too young. (Total 6 young present). The adults were not aggressive. Both The 8 & 9 did a clostooth display. The 9's consisted of spreading his wings horizontally & weaving back & forth slightly. Occasionally she would make a missing note. 19 July Barrow, Alaska The pair was present near the barrel pile on the west end of Solt Lagoon. The mounds that they have been using for perching are covered with leathere. Another lone 8 was seen just west 1 1/2th's month. The 2 nests along Village Slough were checked today. These (#7 and 8) were empty with no sign of young or adults present. Evidently they had been found by the exterminator who then
