Holmes, R. 1960 18. Nyctea scandiaca 13 July Barrow, Alaska When 1st discovered, Dr lost young hood just dried off, and while we were there, the velvet brat led the group II. See Brant note. 14 July Skroawite, Alaska Two chicks were steelin nest #9. They were weighed this morning before returned to Barrow. In nest #10, 1 egg was start To pip. 17 July Barrow - Skroawith, Alaska Nest #7 was again checked. The chicks were weighed & banded. Owl nest #10 contained 2 young, 1 pipping egg, and 2 eggs. The young were weighed. During the evening, I sat at the blend at nest #12. During the 2' hour that I was there, the owl came in and brought a lemming. The & then began to feed it up & gave snore chunks to the chicks. Most of the time, the owl seemed to just sit & feed all 4 young. The owl attempted to cover the young with her wings in order to give them protection.
