Holmes, R. 1960 Nycka scandia 16. 3 July Skroavik, Alaska The nest south 1 horn lake contained 10 young, 2 of which were quite young. 4 of the young were banded. There were 16 lemmings at 74 nest (1088, 694). Nest #1 was visited again, + 4 of the young were banded. 4 July - Nest #9 was checked & the 2 young were weighed. Nest #10 still contains 5 eggs. 8 July - Owl nest #9 still has only 2 young. Then we watched this evening. #10 seems has 5 eggs. 10 July - Both nests were the same as before. 13 July Barrow, Alaska Owl nest #2 was visited for picture taking & pellet collecting. The 8 did quite a distracting display by spreading his wings out horizontally & moving over the ground slowly in a flickering motion. Occasionally he would raise his wings to put them North in a vertical position - similar to the dracula display. At the same time the bird went forward & the movement to the dracula display was comical. Movies were taken by Mather & myself, and there show the
