Holmes, R. 1960 31 may Barrow, Alaska area surrounding the nest is nearly all covered with grass. Only a small area 1 foot is exposed. This is where the eggs have been laid. The nest contained 4 eggs, which are whitish (slightly tinged with dusky or brown). A male was seen at the very southern end of the broad ridge even after an hour's wait to search, but could not be detected. Another male was seen in the morning evening near the northern end of the census plot on the ridge + oguns. No female could be located. There could have been the same bird. 1 June Barrow, Alaska at 0.9 (a mile south) The north end of Skravite, a depression was found which had apparently been the beginning of an owl's nest. Around its rim were 27 dead lemmings. (23 Ad. 8?, 2 Jun. 8?, + 2 Ad. 9?) - all were marked by the removal of the right hind foot. A goshawk was present in the vicinity, but no ? could be seen.
