Holmes, R. 1959 Nyctea scandiaca 24 July Barrow, Alaska Two seen So. 1 Voth's Area on N. ridge just east 1 Voth's Stonyl. 25 July Barrow → Wainwright, Alaska On fly trip down 8 owls are seen with Pieps, Schultz & myself all drawing. About half of these seen within 5 miles Wainwright. Two were seen behind the village during the afternoon. On the return trip about 15 were seen and these were wildly scattered; probably about 3 or 4 miles apart. Only one pair was noted. There are no noticeable complaints present near Wainwright, according to Brewer. The owls must have nested near the Wainwright POE Station because one of them was a young bird as a pet. The station and school teacher at the village did not know of any nesting activity. 28 July Barrow → Pit Point, Alaska Two owls were seen in their flight. One just about 10 mi. SE of Barrow and 1 about 5 mi SW of POE at Pit Point.
