Holmes, R. 1962 Erolia ferruginea 16 June Barrow, Alaska Hines & I located several birds in the same area near Elson Lagoon. At least two pair (one with a lighter ?) and a single bird (probably ? - dark red in color) + possible another ? - very whitish were seen. Feorbird was further. - Then disappeared. The 2 pair + the lone ? were feeding about 100 yards apart - 300-400 yards south of the previous center out - at the edge of the marshy, low center polygons. One pair (looked like the one previously watched) were followed for about an hour. The birds fed along the polygons troughs & ridges. Once they stopped - sat - ? put head on back & both tucked in scrupulous - lasted 5 minute - The preena & continued feeding. No courtship was heard or seen - no whining, no hunched posture - no chasing - however, both birds remained together - never straying more than 3 yards apart. One flight was noted - when the two birds took flight as a picture flew towards them - The they flew behind him in a semi-circular finally settling down & feeding again. This pair eventually flew off & went - The ? behind the ? - giving the seemingly shorter & in every so-passed the other pair - who did not react in any way to this one pair. After the Chesin,
