Stercorarius longicaudis
17 June Barrow, Alaska
1 seen, being harassed by phalaropus - near
grassline ridge.
20 June 1 seen near Qbarail.
24 June 2 seen with a parasitic gaper at The B.R. (see
parasitism). 1 individual seen flying
No. at Wold-sough.
27 June Barrow - Qbarail, Alaska
A flock of 10 seen sitting & flying in
The plat. One bird was pecking at
a mummified Lemming - when
it refused to leave until I
was less than 10' away. The
Lemming seemed too far gone to provide
any food value - so again it looks
like the birds are scavenging.
They may be taking bird eggs. ?!
9 July Flock of 7 individuals feeding at
The South end of Wold-sough - were
they been picking insects from the
grass (?)?. Chamberlain reports a
Flock of 40+ at The south end of
central marsh - 2 were collected.
11 July 4 Seen near insect plot. All storme (2)
hoof myriads of adult crane fly remaine -
so this hawking behaviour is apparent
to catch insects.
