Holmes, R.T. 1964 Stercorarius pomarinus 4 June Barrow, Alaska 6-7 seen hunting MV tundra between Amikpuk (=Fried Lake) + Beaul Ridge. All scatters, occasionally sitting. What appeared to be localized pair (definitely a phantom but - advertisement for spread - oft x sitting together). Seen all along beach ridge for 400s to Wohlkolo bluff ( - often in clumps - along E1 or bluffs & in Central Marsh. No floats noted - only single flier pairs - after hunting. 5 June Not a comma this am in Wola-Lendali areas - several localized under noted - one chasing or displaying. Flowermidii. Seen along beach ridge - only 1 on Pikelki's Plot - also several other flew over 6 June Several along north beach ridge & flying over central marsh - same also, ESR lagoon. First dark phase at 6:30 evening. 7 June At least 2 settled pairs along east side of BR - (me near N corner - me opposite Stoke 3.0-4.0 on Pikelki's Plot). One attempt at copulation noted but & resolutely raising head + "snapping" at 7 as he hovered, + (Male) stood a bit - (she settled) - but - she cocked her tail - he again tried to mount but she did not allow him to settle. 8 June 2-3 settled near north beach ridge - settled locally chasing. + advertising (Ground calls, etc.)
