Holmes, R. 1960 Stercorarius Pomarinus 9. 9 July Skraavik, Alaska The jager to himself. This is the first time that I have seen jaegers attacking other birds (e.g. adult ducks). It is more likely that the jaeger that were nearby & the birds would have reacted that way to any animate object which entered that area. 17 July Barrow, Alaska The young are now starting to show up in the tundra, and several were caught & banded today. Many of the adults are still aggressive. 21 July Barrow & Savarvik, Alaska During the last few days, the chicks have become apparent & can often be seen flying running across the tundra or just staring motionless by a polynya. The adults are still aggressive. 25 July Barrow, Alaska One chick found near Britten's Area which was nearly ready to fly. The wings were nearly fully developed, and it was able to fly for 1-2 strokes. The bird was caught & banded.
